How does tap-to-track tool tracking work?
Every tool wears an NFC sticker or QR code. A worker taps or scans it with their own phone and a web page opens instantly — no app install, no login, no account. One big button: TAKE or RETURN. The whole exchange takes two taps and under ten seconds, and the live register updates for the office in real time.

What does an inspector ask for in a test-and-tag audit?
An inspector typically asks for your electrical equipment register: which tools you have, when each was last tested, by whom, the result, and when the next test is due under AS/NZS 3760. Overdue tags can't sneak out
When a tool's test tag lapses, the tool's own tap page shows a red "Do not use" banner — the warning appears on the tool, before it leaves the depot, not in a report nobody opens.

Straight talk: no AS/NZS 3760 compliance software makes you compliant by itself. Testing must still be done by a competent person. SiteWarden's job is to keep the register true and audit-ready without anyone maintaining it — so the paperwork is never the thing that fails.
How do I see who has my tools right now?
The office dashboard shows every tool's current holder, site and how long it's been out — live, not as of last stocktake. Tools out more than 7 days turn amber; more than 14 days, red. Returns feed a repair queue automatically: any tool returned as "has a problem" lands in the queue with the reporter's note attached.

Does tool tracking mean tracking my workers?

Questions crews and offices actually ask
Do my workers need to download an app or create an account?
No. Workers never install anything and never create accounts. They tap an NFC tag or scan a QR code on the tool with their own phone, and a web page opens instantly with one big button: TAKE or RETURN. Two taps, under ten seconds. Only office admins have logins.
What if a worker's phone can't read NFC tags?
Every tool has three ways in: the NFC tag, a QR code, and a short code engraved on the tool that can be typed into the browser. If NFC doesn't work on a particular phone, the QR scan or typed code always does. No tool is ever unreachable.
Does SiteWarden track my workers' location?
No. SiteWarden has no GPS and no person-tracking of any kind. It records tool events only: who took or returned which tool, when, and at which site. Knowing who has a tool is there to help the crew find gear fast — not to watch people.
Does using SiteWarden make my business AS/NZS 3760 compliant?
No software makes you compliant on its own. Testing must still be done by a competent person with the right equipment. What SiteWarden does is keep the AS/NZS 3760 register accurate and audit-ready automatically — recording test dates, retest due dates and results, and flagging overdue tags before tools leave the depot.
How often do tools need to be tested and tagged in Australia?

Who can test and tag electrical equipment?
Under AS/NZS 3760 a 'competent person' can test and tag — you don't have to be a licensed electrician. Competency is usually shown by completing a recognised test-and-tag course. SiteWarden records who performed each test in the register but does not perform testing or certify testers.

Will the tags survive on metal tools and outdoor conditions?
Standard NFC tags don't read through metal, so tags mount on the plastic housing of the tool — glued with two-part epoxy they survive vibration, rain and site abuse. Every tagged tool also carries a typed short code and a QR backup, so even a damaged tag never strands a tool: it can still be taken and returned by typing the code.
What does the audit export look like?
One click produces an inspector-ready PDF or CSV: company header, full tool register, complete test-and-tag history per tool, and the custody ledger showing who held each tool and when. It's formatted to hand straight to a safety inspector.
What happens when a worker takes a tool someone else signed out?
That's allowed — it's how real sites work. Grabbing a tool that's out with someone else is recorded as a transfer with one tap, so the custody chain never breaks. The register always shows the current holder, not the last person who bothered to sign a sheet.
Can I import my existing tool list?
Yes — you can load your existing tool register during setup, and our free CSV templates match the import format. Most crews are tagged and live within a day of receiving their kit.
